Anybody wanna throw in a sample MAPINFO for the sake of demonstrating the structure of it all? -- Ultraviolet (forgot the sig markup again)

Can't Understand

For the sake of God, this page is not understandable.
Example:

name <nice name>
This is the episode's name as text. If you do not provide a picname, then ZDoom will convert this name to a graphic for you. This value must be enclosed in quotation marks.

What?!? I understand nothing, and I fail to use it (I receive always a warning "bad syntax", no matter the way to write it)

name?!? Of what? Of the episode?
nice name?!? Why it is not written name <"nice name">, if we have to use quotation marks?!?
a picname?!? where?
This value?!? What are you talking about?

If I write:

Episode name "Episode Hell"

Gzdoom v1.0.21 crash with a "bad syntax" (yes, the real name of the Pwad is "Episode Hell", e4m1-e4m8)... :(
Same if I write:

Episode Thy Flesh Consumed "Episode hell"

Please, is it possible to put an example for each of the commands? Thank you for your patience with noobs like me! --Jive 06:38, 15 December 2006 (PST)

There are ZDoom forums for asking these kinds of questions if you don't understand something on the wiki. If you feel the description on the wiki is inadequate, you are welcome to add to it. HOWEVER, parameter names should not have quotation marks around them, ever, period. It is important that the wiki be as consistent as possible, and there are many, many parameters which may require quotation marks only in certain situations. A parameter typically encapsulates a number (1, 0.9, etc) or a string ("Hello", "How are you?", "72", etc). In the case of the latter, the quotation marks identify the value being given as a string and are therefore part of the value, not the parameter itself. HotWax 17:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
P.S. the correct format in this case is:
Episode E4M1
Name "Episode Hell"

Page layout and format

I understand the need to change the page layout to provide a working TOC, but the choice to indent the commands while leaving the explanation text at left-aligned is bizarre to me, and is completely inconsistent with the layout of the rest of the wiki. I went ahead and reformatted the page so the commands are at the left edge and the text is indented. This "breaks" a few sections that include code blocks, but it doesn't look too bad and can be fixed later. HotWax 17:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
